California Hula Classes

Kahiko I Hula O Ke Anuenuelynn

I came to Kauai as a visitor in 1976 and was directed by my sister and her friends to take a hula class from Roselle Bailey. I was smitten with the dance, mesmerized by Kauai’s natural wonders and curious about the Hawaiian culture. My three week stay turned into three months and I was able to move to Kauai later that year, resuming my studies with Kumu Roselle. Marriage, children and business brought us back to California. With a permanent bond to our halau, and Roselle’s encouragement, I began to teach in 2000. Kahiko I Hula O Ke Anuenue, is a small branch that is slowly blossoming in California, to represent, support and participate in our cooperative endeavors. Being part of Ka’imi Na’auao O Hawaii Nei Institute is a rich and continuing experience of learning, kokua and aloha. With great reverence for Kumu Roselle and her lineage, we look to the future for guidance in the continuation of this living art, Hula.
