Kaua`i Classes
On the island of Kaua’i are three halau under the umbrella of Ka’Imi Na’auao O Hawai`i Nei.
Kahiko Ha Lapa I Hula Alapa’i
The first halau was called Kahiko Halapa’i I Hula Alapa’i and was founded in 1971 by Roselle Keli’ihonipua Bailey under Ka ‘Imi Na’auao O Hawai’i Nei, the eleemosynary research institue since 1977.
In 1995 the halau was renamed Kahiko Ha Lapa I Hula Alapa’i and is now under the direction of Kumu Keahi Manea who has studied Hula with Roselle since 1978. Classes are held in the small parish hall of the Kapaa First Hawaiian Church in old Kapaa Town.
The 2010 hula year begins Wednesday, January 6 and continues until after the Eo Emalani performance in October. Classes are offered to returning Ka Imi students each Wednesday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.
